Mama Afrika Single Released

Renowned South African singer-songwriter Robin Auld has released a new single, MAMA AFRIKA, in collaboration with Johannesburg based Brenthurst Foundation, and written with its director Dr Greg Mills.

The launch of the single follows two years of field research across Africa by the Brenthurst Foundation, which culminated in the book, Making Africa Work.

Having released twenty albums to date and collaborated with the likes of Johnny Clegg, Wendy Oldfield, Louis Mhlanga, Schalk Joubert, and Hilton Schilder, Robin is no stranger to political activism through the use of music.

Speaking from his home in Kalk Bay, Robin Auld said: “Music has always been a great equalizer and an effective tool for getting across strong messages. Mama Afrika was written to not just depict the challenges Africa faces, but to also provide solutions and bring an underlying message of peace and unity. I’m honoured to be part of this project and to be able to spread the message of Making Africa Work a little wider through the single.”

Co-author of Making Africa Work, Greg Mills, said: “The lessons of the book are not just for policy makers and other officials, it is for every citizen of Africa. We wanted to write a song that encapsulated the findings of the book and communicated these to a wider audience in a fun and digestible way. First and foremost, Robin’s music has ensured Mama Afrika is great to listen to. But it also contains important messages which we hope can contribute towards creating a more prosperous and fairer continent.”

Over the past few months Robin has been travelling across Africa performing the song to not only fans but Presidents and Prime Ministers. He will go onto promote ‘Mama Afrika’ in the UK, North Africa and Europe this September.
