This work presented here has been prepared over the past year. Its purpose aligns with the role of The Brenthurst Foundation in identifying the policy choices we have before us which can help to strengthen positively African economic performance: thus to both highlight and to get all of us to start thinking about the choices we have before us and the costs and benefits of each of these: These key choices, as we will hear, are in our view about the following:

• Save or Squander?
• Bread Basket or Basket Case?
• A Youth Empowered?
• Competitive or Costly?

It is a presentation which will identify the means to separate the winners from the losers.
